What to expect from the Susanna Cox Academy
Excellent Exam Results
Students are encouraged to take yearly exams which, alongside a sense of achievement, also develop performance skills and confidence.
The academy has an incredibly high pass rate across all disciplines, with most children achieving either ‘Honours’ or ‘Commended’ (the two highest marks).
Perform in shows
The Susanna Cox Academy puts on a bi-annual Christmas show in which all students are encouraged to participate. We find students get a lot of enjoyment and inspiration out of being part of a big production.
Throughout the year, Academy students are also invited to perform small productions at local events and get involved in the community.
For students that show both promise and enthusiasm we offer the opportunity to participate in local dance festivals and competitions. Past and current students collectively boast an impressive collection of medals and shields from winning or being placed at these events, and we have seen success from student across all dance disciplines.
Susanna Cox Academy alumni have gone on to study dance at a professional level gaining places at the prestigious ‘Elmhurst Ballet School,’ and ‘Stella Mann College.’
Whilst training with the Susanna Cox Academy many students have successfully auditioned and taken part in the Kent youth Ballet, the English Youth Ballet and the Sussex Youth Ballet, and we have had students gain places in both the Royal Ballet associates and the Cecchetti Associates.
Several of our students regularly audition for local professional pantomimes and we have a good track record of student gaining places in the cast of both the Seven Oaks pantomime and the Trinity Theatre pantomime.
Susanna was trained at the Nesta Brooking School of Ballet, studying all aspects of the performing arts, before embarking on a professional career as a modern dancer working both in England and abroad. Having been head girl for numerous dancing groups, her career has seen her work alongside several famous names in large shows and allowed her to tour the world dancing.
Having gained experience running her own dance groups working with choreography and costuming, when she settled down to start a family, she also started the Susanna Cox Academy, which has now been growing successfully for over 20 years.
Alongside running the school Susanna is a member of the management committee for the Professional Teachers of Dancing, and also works for them as a performing arts examiner.
